Tips for Organizing your Pantry

Tips for Organizing your Pantry

Having an organized pantry is another great space to have organized for the entire family! The best part of having an organized pantry is spending less money on food and ingredients because you can easily see what you have and what you need.

Tips for organizing your pantry

  • First things first, check expiration dates! We always like to tell our clients that just because an item is expired doesn’t necessarily mean it will harm you. However, it is a great indication of if you actually use that item or not.

  • Think about the foods you like to keep on hand and put like items together.

  • Place items that you use together in the same “zone”

    • First, think about when you use certain items such as breakfast items, dinner items, snacks and baking and place those larger categories in certain “zones” in your pantry.

    • Next, think about the items that are in those larger categories and put those together in bins/baskets.

      • Breakfast - muffins, oatmeal, granola, etc.

      • Dinner - pasta, rice, taco kits, etc.

      • Snacks - protein bars, chips, crackers, etc.

      • Baking - flour, sugar, baking powder, etc.

  • Use turntables in hard to reach areas like corners.

  • Think about your pantry space and buy products that fit that space.

  • Decant staple items, such as flour and sugar. Don’t forget to write the expiration date on the canister!

  • Use a variety of bins and baskets.

  • If your pantry has a door, use that space for extra storage.

  • Consider if you have kids putting snacks where they can reach them and putting sweets higher up.

  • Think outside the pantry! Is there another space in your kitchen for oils/vinegars and spices or baking items.

  • Store appliances lower or higher depending on how often you reach for them. Also, think about how heavy the item is and place accordingly.

  • When labeling, use broader labels as items in the pantry can change often.

Keep in mind that every pantry is different and your pantry is unique to you and your home. The products that work in one pantry, may or may not necessarily be best for your space. Also, your needs will change throughout seasons, so frequently check in and make changes to your pantry as your needs evolve.
